Who We Are

 

EdúcaTE Yucatán A.C. is a nonprofit organization that began its activities in Cholul, Yucatán, in 2010. Since then, we have worked to improve educational opportunities for the girls, boys, and young people of the community, promoting their personal development through educational and formative programs.

Our History

 

In 2012, EdúcaTE Yucatán was formally established as a Civil Association. In 2014, we obtained Authorization as a Donataria, which allows us to issue tax-deductible receipts and receive support both nationally and internationally. We also have the Clave Única de Inscripción (CLUNI), which validates our work at the federal and state levels through the Registry for the Promotion of Civil Society Organizations.

Thanks to the support of the Municipality of Mérida, since 2013 we have had a dedicated space in the municipal commissary of Cholul where we carry out our after-school activities. We also have a Multipurpose Room, provided by the municipality in 2017, which has become the operational center of our programs.

Cholul: Our Community

 

Cholul is located northeast of Mérida and has approximately 11,745 inhabitants, most of them of Maya origin. Although it is close to the capital, Cholul still faces significant challenges, especially regarding access to educational and social services. Many residents rely on trades such as construction work and domestic labor, with limited resources to improve their living conditions.

Cholul’s history, built upon an ancient pre-Hispanic settlement, provides a rich cultural context. Its main square, with a 16th-century church, reflects the community’s deep historical roots.

In terms of education, Cholul has a preschool, two public primary schools, a secondary school, and a campus of the Colegio de Bachilleres de Yucatán (COBAY).

Our mission is to support the school-age population of Cholul, Mérida, by promoting the personal development of the community’s girls, boys, and young people through educational programs that strengthen their opportunities for academic and professional growth.

Our vision is to be a model organization that identifies and enhances the human potential of the community, improving educational attainment as a key factor for social mobility.

Our Objectives

• Strengthen the comprehensive education of girls, boys, and young people in Cholul to improve academic performance and reduce school dropout rates.

• Increase access to higher education for young people in the community.

• Address sociocultural factors that limit personal development, such as early pregnancies, addictions, gender inequality, and discrimination.

• Promote the socio-emotional well-being of girls, boys, young people, and their families, fostering healthy relationships and a culture of peace.

• Enhance the self-esteem of girls, boys, and young people through cultural and sports activities that encourage active engagement in their community.
